Rachel grew up on a farm in Suffolk. Upon leaving school she studied Music at Trinity College of Music in London where her joint first instruments were trumpet and piano. Having gained her degree and Fellowship Diplomas she continued her studies with a Postgraduate Year.
Rachel began working as a freelance musician in London and played with many leading orchestras and bands. She toured extensively and was a soloist at the Salzburg Music Festival on two separate occasions.
Following her studies she also began teaching for the Inner London Education Authority and for the Borough of Richmond upon Thames. She also taught at the International French Lycee in South Kensington.
Subsequently Rachel returned to live in Suffolk and was appointed Head of Brass at Culford School. She went on to become Director of Music at Old Buckingham Hall School and then Cranbrook College. She is currently Director of Music at Focus School, Stoke By Nayland Campus and has a thriving private practice of pupils.
Throughout her career Rachel has conducted and directed bands, orchestras and choirs for education, private and community groups
Rachel now lives near Bury St Edmunds and is the proud owner of alpacas, some rare-breed sheep, chickens and a pampered cat.

After many years service with the Ipswich Hospital Band, Peter Gray has left to conduct the Leiston British Legion Band.
